History

Sag Harbor’s Wamponamon Lodge 437 is only 140 years young but was re-instituted from Hampton Lodge 111 founded in Sag Harbor mainly by whaling masters in 1804. Hampton # 111 at the time was the only civic society in Sag Harbor. In those days, as today, to be a Mason was a matter of distinction. It was a matter of distinction even to know a Mason. So it was not unusual for schools to dismiss classes and permit workers to take time off from their jobs, to tum out en masse to view a Masonic parade. Wamponamon Lodge is the proud parent of Old Town Lodge and Star of the East.
